Audio Mastering Engineer
Hi I am Torrey Richards and I am the studio designer and head Mastering Engineer here at the Cabin. I am a Composer and Mastering Engineer that has been working in audio production for over 20 years.
I earned my bachelors in audio production from The Evergreen State College and an MFA Composition from Vermont College of Fine Arts, VCFA, a first-rate institution if I do say so myself.
The Mastering Cabin is a space I dreamed up and then helped build in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. The cabin is filled with state of the art mastering gear and a listening environment that is second to none. It is surrounded by 5 miles of water, very quiet…
The Mastering Cabin provides mastering services for independent artists, labels, professional mix engineers and producers.
What does a mastering engineer do?
Being a mastering engineer requires extensive training and experience in audio production. It is the mastering engineer’s responsibility to polish and enhance audio mixes. The mastering engineer is often a fresh set of ears for an artist or audio engineer that has listened to a track hundreds of times during production.
In technical terms, it is the mastering engineers job to apply EQ’s, stereo imaging, compression & finally limiting to bring the mix to its peak loudness and quality levels.
The mastering engineer will also deliver this final version of your song in the necessary format it requires. This can include mastering for streaming services, video, CD, cassette and vinyl.
